Our department organized 7-day webinar based on the topic ‘Developing GIS and remote sensing for sustainable development’ from June 1-7. 2020 wherein Dr. A. Selvaraj, Associate Professor, PCET Campus acted as the resource person.
What is Geo informatics?
Geoinformatics is a course that deals with the science and technology which uses and also develops information science to look after the problems of geography, geosciences and cartography and branches related to science and engineering.
The geoinformatics course covers subjects that deal with advanced lessons in space technologies, geospatial models, analysis networks, etc. It gives the students a broad aspect of how geoinformatics is helping to learn new things in Geography, etc.
The course can be pursued as both Bachelors in geoinformatics and Masters in geoinformatics. The candidate can pursue the geoinformatics course as he/she wishes to pursue it. The students who wish to study and also bring a change in the development of geo-information should pursue this course.
After pursuing a geoinformatics course, the candidates are hired as GIS Analyst, GIS Technician, Geologist, etc. The candidate gets a fair knowledge about all the aspects of the course and enhances the skills of the students.
Scope of Geo informatics in India and Abroad
The scope of geoinformatics course is tremendous not only in India but also Abroad. The candidate gets hired at good job profiles once they complete the course. A fresher in this field gets hired at a good job profile and paid simultaneously.
Geoinformatics is the technology that supports basic scientific reasons behind geography as well as looks after the social and environmental challenges. Geoinformatics is a subject that studies the problems of geography, cartography, etc. and finds solutions to the problems. The scope of this field keeps expanding and provides job opportunities to the people who pursue this course. The field is a very growing field and enhances the individual’s skills by studying the subjects.
The scope of geoinformatics course is such that the dream of digital India cannot be accomplished without Geoinformatics. With the increasing scope of Geoinformatics, the need for professionals in this field is increasing day-by-day. After completing this course, the individuals are hired as GIS Technician, GIS Analyst, etc. which gives them a wide scope to learn about the challenges and face them.
Career in Geo informatics
After the successful completion of this course, the door is wide open for zillions of opportunities. The career depends on the individual that he/ she wants to apply for which job role. With digital India doing the rounds, the need for professionals in this field is much needed. The development projects need Geospatial information and also professionals from the field.
Some of the careers in this field are:
Upcoming trends
It is one such field that keeps expanding day-by-day with the need for more professionals needed in the field. The needs of professionals in this field need to work closely and analyze the problem and then find a solution to the problem.
With the advancement of technology, there are new trends in geospatial technology that will have an impact on geoinformatics. The trends are also now getting digitized and with the pandemic that has hit us, everything is available on digital platforms. It has become very easy for professionals in this field to work from the comfort of their home.
Some of the upcoming trends in geoinformatics are mentioned below:
